This A Level English Literature Distance Learning Online Course is ideal for anyone wishing to gain a knowledge and understanding of this subject or for anyone who wishes to study at a higher level at University and gain UCAS points. You will also find this course extremely valuable if you are looking for a progression route for further training whilst employed.

On this A’ Level English Literature course, you will explore the relationships that exist between texts and contexts within which they are written, received and understood. You will be encouraged to debate and challenge other readers interpretations, developing your own informed personal responses together with a variety of reading strategies.

Please note that as the awarding body is CIE, the qualification will be International A’ Level / AS Level English Literature.

Students use Cambridge International AS & A Levels to gain places at leading universities worldwide including the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Singapore, Egypt, Jordan, South Africa, the Netherlands, Germany and Spain.

A Level Course

There are fours papers in total for the Full A’ Level.  Each paper is 2 hours long contributing 25% toward the overall grade.

Paper 1

Poetry and Prose

The paper contains two sections: Section A: Poetry and Section B: Prose. Candidates answer two questions, each from a different section.
An essay question and a passage-based question are set on each text.

In all answers, candidates must show understanding of the text and an informed independent opinion; they must communicate these clearly and appropriately.

Paper 2

Drama

Candidates answer two questions on two plays.
An essay question and a passage-based question are set on each text.

In all answers, candidates must show understanding of the text and an informed independent opinion; they must communicate these clearly and appropriately.

Paper 3

Shakespeare and other pre-20th Century Texts

This paper is divided into:

Section A: Shakespeare

Section B: Other pre-20th Century Texts.

Candidates answer two questions: one question from Section A and one question from Section B. At least one of the questions candidates answer must be a (b) passage-based question chosen from
either Section A or Section B.

1900 to the present

Candidates answer one question on each of two different texts.

Will I require any previous knowledge to start this course?

You do not need any prior learning knowledge or experience to take this course. This course is openly available to anyone who wishes to take part in a highly rewarding home study course, although you would be expected to have a reasonable standard of literacy. You have the freedom to start the course at any time and continue your studies at your own pace for a period of up to 2 years from initial registration with the full support of your Tutor.
